The city that doesn't exist: Hypermedia reconstrution to understand Latin-America Cities

One of man's most complex cultural manifestations is the city, particularly because it has been the center of most of the social life throughout history. At the same time it is a powerful agent of human development. For us, the city is explored as a physical footprint of the social dynamics of cultural, economic, political and social activities. The original contribution of this research is the study of the symbolic structures which define the evolution of cities, specifically those attributes associated with buildings and public spaces. We have developed a hypermedia system based on 3D historical digital models of two Latin-American cities: Havana and Rio de Janeiro. Through these models, we have collected and restored the urban structure of the cities in different periods through their evolution to understand and analyze each city's identity.
